Casco de seguridad: Antes que nada debemos tener bien en claro que la principal función del casco de seguridad es proteger la cabeza del usuario de peligros y golpes mecánicos, asimismo puede proteger frente a otro tipo de riesgos de naturaleza mecánica, térmica o eléctrica mecánica. Entre las características de un casco de seguridad podemos mencionar los siguientes elementos:
El Armazón que comprende:
- Casquete, que comprende el elemento de material duro y de terminación lisa que básicamente constituye la forma externa general del casco.
- Visera, que se refiere a la prolongación del casquete, ubicado por encima de los ojos.
- Ala, que comprende básicamente el borde que circunda al casquete.
El Arnés, que comprende todos los elementos que cumplen la función de mantener el casco en posición sobre la cabeza y además absorben la energía cinética durante algún probable impacto. De acuerdo a las características particulares podemos considerar:
- Banda de contorno de cabeza, que se refiere a la parte del arnés que rodea de manera total o parcial la cabeza por encima de los ojos de manera horizontal constituyéndose en la circunferencia mayor de la cabeza.
- Banda de nuca, que se refiere a una banda regulable que se ubica y se ajusta detrás de la cabeza bajo el plano de la banda de cabeza.
- Barbiquejo, que básicamente consta de una banda que se acopla bajo la barbilla para fijar o sujetar el casco sobre la cabeza, constituyéndose como un elemento opcional en el uso de los cascos. Como se mencionó anteriormente los cascos deben proteger la cabeza de los usuarios, motivo por el cual para reducir las consecuencias destructivas de algún golpe en la cabeza, el casco debe cumplir con ciertas condiciones como:
Ejercer cierta limitación de la presión aplicada al cráneo, distribuyendo la carga sobre la mayor superficie posible, obteniendo un sistema efectivo de absorción de impactos. Para lograr este objetivo el caso debe contar con un arnés lo suficientemente grande de manera que pueda adaptarse bien a las distintas formas del cráneo del usuario, que además cuenta con un armazón duro de resistencia suficiente para evitar que la cabeza del usuario entre en contacto directo con objetos que caigan accidentalmente cobre la cabeza, de manera que el armazón debe resistir la deformación y la perforación.
